
Established in the international scene, Sylvain Gasançon has directed, among others, the main orchestras of Latin America (Ofunam, National of Mexico and Opera of Fine Arts, Philharmonic of Mexico City, OSESP in Sao Paulo, Philharmonic of Buenos Aires and National of Argentina, National of Chile and Philharmonic of Bogotá, among others). In Europe, highlights include concerts with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Magdeburgische Philharmonie in Germany, Rotterdam Symphony, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, St. Petersburg State Symphony, Bretagne Orchestra and Lorraine National in France, Vaasa Symphony in Finland, among many others.
Born in Metz, France, he began his violin studies at the age of five. He gave his first concerts at a very young age and continued his studies at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels with Endre Kleve as his teacher. He began his conducting studies with teacher Jean-Sébastien Béreau. Later he received guidance from Gerhard Markson in Salzburg, Gianluigi Gelmetti in Siena, Pinchas Zukerman and Jorma Panula in Otawa. He also graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Paris where he studied harmony, fugue, counterpoint, analysis, and orchestration. He gained international attention as a winner of the 2005 International Eduardo Mata Conducting Competition in Mexico City and Second Prize winner in the 2006 International Jorma Panula Conducting Competition in Finland. He obtained a master’s degree in musicology from the University of Paris and is now realizing specialized researches literature and gender studies.
